Ribble Valley Lodge
There's plenty to do:
Here are a few suggestions...
Boutique Shopping in
Clitheroe
Just a 20 minute drive through lovely countryside, this small mill town is pleasantly posh. There's lots of boutique shops, beer bars and if you park at Sainsburys you can get your groceries then head into the Emporium for a browse and a brunch.
A brisk walk up
Pendle
Type 'Pendle Dry Ski Slope' into sat-nav and keep going 500 yards. A walk from this car park will take you on an easy hike where you can look out across glorious countryside. The summit takes about an hour, take water and waterproofs!
See the sea
Lytham St Annes
Quieter than its near neighbour, Blackpool, this popular sea-side town is great for shopping, slot-machines and fish'n'chips - followed by a brisk walk on its vast open beaches. Check the tide times before you go.
You've got to go at least once to
Blackpool
Tacky, naff, characterful, raucous...this boisterous seaside resort is a kind of Lancashire Las Vegas. You can pose on the promenade, go to a show, gamble to your hearts content in the many casinos, or be turned upside down at the Pleasure Beach. And - if you get your dates right the illuminations are a must for young families.
A day trip out in
The Lakes
An hour up the M6 and you're entering the world- renowned National Park. Walk round Coniston, hire a sailing dinghy on Ullswater or take a trip on the Windermere ferry and you'll come back with your soul restored.
Our favourite spot for
Wild Swimming
In high summer this place is used by all the local wild-swimmers. A wide deep pool with plenty of room for everyone and a few kayaks which regularly pass through. Park at the Marles Wood car park on Ribchester Road near Dinckley. As with all wild swimming, it is at your own risk as there are no lifeguards present.
On a rainy day
The Park Pool
Is an easy win. Its kidney shaped so not great for lane swimming. Much more fun to bob around and chat to other holiday-makers. Worth giving reception a quick ring to check its open before you head over.
Shopping trip to
Manchester
First tip is - go by train - so much easier. Drive 15 mins to Ramsgreave & Wilpshire train station and you'll be in the centre of this vibrant city in under an hour.
Kids will love things like
Go Ape Blackburn
And lots of other local activities featured on the dayoutwiththekids.co.uk website. Just type in Longridge and see what it comes up with.
